Girl Scouts named Grand Marshals of the 2011 Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade
November 09 2011
Tupelo, Mississippi - Debbie Brangenberg, Executive Director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, announced today that local area Girls Scouts will lead the Reed’s Annual Christmas Parade as its Grand Marshals.
The 2011 theme for the annual Reed’s Christmas Parade is “The All America City Christmas.” Organizers thought this would be very fitting since Tupelo was named an All-America City for the fourth time earlier this year in Kansas City. “We are so proud,” said Mayor Jack Reed, Jr. “It is an honor for our community to have this designation, and I am personally very proud that the All-America City status will be re-ignited through the annual Christmas parade and throughout the holiday season.”
Debbie Brangenberg said “the Girl Scouts were a perfect choice for Grand Marshals. Opportunity is one of the thriving forces behind an All-America City and opportunity is exactly what the Girl Scouts offer to thousands of young girls who will eventually be leaders in our community. We are honored that the Girl Scouts accepted this role.”
In 2012 Girl Scouts of the USA will mark 100 years of inspiring girls and young women with the ideals of courage, confidence and character. Focusing on five key areas these girls are leading the way: Entrepreneurship & Career Exploration, Healthy Living, Leadership & Advocacy, Camping & Outdoor Skills, and Life Skills.
The premier leadership development organization for girls, Girl Scouts Heart of the South serves over 11,000 girls and continues to grow through the dedication of 3,500 adult volunteers in 59 counties in West Tennessee, North Mississippi and Crittenden County, Arkansas.
The Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade, properly themed “The All-American City Christmas” parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3 on the streets of Downtown Tupelo.
